Who is Pinky Anyway?

My name is actually Renée. I’m 43 years old (at the time of writing) and I’m originally from the US but live in the Netherlands for the past 18 years. Ik spreek nederlands but since my mother-tongue is English and I’m just better writing in English, that’s how you read the blog.

I’m not a doctor or a lawyer or a politician. I’m also not a diet guru or a fitness expert. I happen to work in accounting at a pretty big Coffee Company that you probably have heard of before. When I’m not at work I’m running, biking, in the gym, cooking, prepping my meals or I’m sleeping. I have a pretty hefty commute so I have to shove as much in my free time as possible.

I haven’t always been fit or healthy. Nor have I always had perseverance or this much determination. I would have never described myself in the past as disciplined or with a lot of focus. In fact for a huge part of my life I was the party girl who threw caution to the wind and paid the price later. I’ve grown up a bit and settled down.

In fact, I’ve settled down with a nice fellow whom I lovingly call “Hubs” but his real name is Ron. He has two kids, which pretty much means I have two kids by proxy. And I love those mini-hubs, they are, in fact fairly awesome, even for teenagers. We have three cats and 5 fish the last I checked. Life is good. It’s not perfect, but it’s good.

I got the name Pinky from Ron back in 2004, simply because I had a pink coat. Pinky Pie came to life when my step-daughter had a phase with My Little Ponies. The name stuck. I originally called the blog “Full Fat to Low Fat Pie” and then later signed up my domain as lowfatpie.com. I’m not much of a “low fat” advocate, though my body weight and structure is at least lower in fat these days than when I started the blog.

My favourite colour is still pink.
My favourite number is 3,682
My favourite band is still Depeche Mode (hey, I’m 43, remember?)
My most eaten food at the moment is chicken
I prefer strength training these days over cardio
I drink wine in the weekend, or out, but my most favourite alcoholic beverage is beer (GOOD beer).
I like to spell things the English way now. Sue me.
I’m from New Mexico and I miss mostly good red chile and the way the rain smells when it hits the ground in summer.
I have met people from all over the world through the internet. I think it’s awesome.
My current obsession country is Australia and I would love to get the accent down.
The most amazing place I’ve ever visited is probably Petra in Jordan.

What I would love to get out of blogging is to meet some amazing people out there, support and be supported. I am honestly a bit crap about keeping up with everyone but sometimes I’m afraid I just don’t have time.

Lastly I just want to say that YOU can do anything YOU set out to do. If you believe in yourself and take away the excuses and the word “can’t” you can truly achieve ANYTHING. One thing I’ve learned throughout this whole journey (a word I just don’t like, but yeah, what are you going to call it?) is, take your time, be patient and don’t ever give up. I hope to be around for a long time and I hope that I’ll meet some nice friends along the way.

  1. I REALLY like your page. You have given me an uplift during a downdraft, a lovely gift. I love working out too. Used to run, but at 60 am now into Pilates. Loved running in my 20s, Jazzercize 30-50. I’ve lived in Colorado Springs, Minnesota, the Catskill Mountains, Omaha, and now Southern California but nowhere as exotic as the Netherlands! Times are tough here. Americans are so tense right now. Large quantities of them. On the other end of the phone, at work and on the road, and in the stores. You are a ray of sunshine. Keep it up.

  2. So, hot pink and fuschia are alright in my book. It’s just that sickly pale, little girl pink of the breast cancer ribbon I have issues with :) I love reading your blog. Good luck in Berlin!!
